Johnny Depp NFTs are surging after the actor won the defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard so let’s find out more today in our latest cryptocurrency news.

The NFT collection on OpenSea featured an image of Depp and other figures dubbed “friends and heroes.” the NFT collection featuring artwork by Johnny Depp surged in value after the actor won the defamation suit against Amber Heard.  The “Never Fear Truth” NFT had a floor price of 0.52 ETH and before the televised defamation trial, the collection didn’t get much traction. At that time, ETH was trading at $2,664 and the collection was first launched in January with a starting price o 0.70 ETH. The collection of generative art on OpenSea is minted on Ethereum and featured artwork by Depp. The project was verified by MakersPlace and among the collection, there were images of “Friends and Heroes” from Depp’s past like Tim Burton, Heath Ledger, River Phoenix, Al Pacino, and more. The description of the collection reads:

“In this first public exposure of Johnny’s art, he has focussed on people he has known well, and who have inspired him as a person. Each image is an intimate reflection of their character in Johnny’s eyes; a portrayal of how they have revealed themselves to him.”

The Non-fungible tokens are unique tokens that are linked to digital content that provides proof of ownership. As per OpenSea, the “Never Fear Truth” NFT will act as a membership to the creative community and others released by Depp. Depp is not the first controversial celebrity to enter the NFT space. Back in December, we saw rapper Ice-T launch an NFT collection. He was controversial for his song “cop Killer” which was written from a perspective of a character that was fed up with police brutality.

The NFTs became controversial as well with gamers and artists pushing back against what they see as a cash grab or a scam, not to mention the environmental impact of NFTS minted on PoW blockchains like ETH.

West’s Mascotte Holdings filed 17 trademark applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office including mentions of a potential NFT asset and other metaverse experiences so one filing even noted there’s potential for providing an online marketplace for the buyers of crypto and other types of assets.
